Abstract

The objective of this study is to conduct bibliometric analyses of scientific works that utilize Landsat satellite imagery, thereby seeking to understand the objectives, scope, methodology, application areas, and outcomes of research employing these images. In this context, the Scopus database, one of the most widely used databases for bibliometric analysis, has been selected. For the bibliometric analysis, the term 'Landsat' was searched within publication titles, abstracts, and keywords. Following an initial orientation, "Earth and Planetary Sciences" was chosen as the subject area. The study reveals an increasing trend in the usage of the term 'Landsat' since the 1970s when the Landsat missions began. Owing to the efficacy of Landsat satellites, more than 130 works have been produced by a single researcher. A significant majority of these works were found to be produced by Chinese scientists, with researchers from the United States, the mission's country of origin and management, ranking second. When considering the affiliations of researchers, the most substantial contributions have been made by the United States. Among the works concerning the Landsat concept, articles rank highest, followed by conference papers. In terms of subject areas, Earth and Planetary Sciences have been identified as the predominant fields. The term 'Landsat' is most frequently used in works published in English. When examining the association of the term 'Landsat' with keywords in these works, 'remote sensing' emerges as the most frequently encountered concept.
