Species Limitation Studies and Phylogenetic Analysis of Mentha L. Taxa Distributed in Eskişehir Province

Abstract

In this study, flowering and non-flowering Mentha aquatica L., Mentha longifolia (L.) L., Mentha longifolia (L.) HUDSON subsp. typhoides (BRIQ.) HARLEY, Mentha spicata L. and Mentha pulegium L. taxa were collected. Species limitation studies were determined according to the Single Threshold and Multi Threshold GMYC (Generalized Mixed Yule Coalescent) method used in species limitation studies based on the ITS dataset. Based on the data set of the rbcL and matK regions of chloroplast DNA, the Mentha taxa studied according to the Single Threshold and Multi Threshold GMYC (Generalized Mixed Yule Coalescent) method were determined. As a result of genetic diversity studies with ITS dataset, the highest and lowest haplotype diversity was revealed. No significant population group was found among the population groups according to the neutrality tests and the FS values of Tajima's D and Fu. This shows that population groups do not move away from neutrality. As a result of genetic diversity studies based on the matK dataset, which is 807 base pairs long, the species with the highest haplotite diversity was determined. The highest haplotite diversity was determined in genetic diversity studies with the 555 base pair long rbcL data set.
