Abstract

The increase in the population of the world and our country has led people to plant production. In herbal production, vegetables are preferred more than other plants in terms of health and nutrition. Vegetables have an important place in nutrition and diet programs as they are fibrous, have almost no fat content, are rich in vitamins and minerals, do not cause weight gain, contain plenty of water and are easy to digest. In the study, it is aimed to determine the place and importance of Turkey in the sector by examining the world and Turkey vegetable production. With the study, both the cultivation area and production potential and the leading vegetables in export were emphasized. Over the years, there has been an increase in vegetable production areas and production amounts in the world. It has been determined that this positive momentum is similarly experienced in Turkey. It has been determined that the increase in the yield of vegetable species and varieties produced in Turkey is above the world average. Due to the different climatic regions and vegetable growing areas in Turkey, it has ranked fourth in the world's vegetable production.

Turkey is the country that has a say in both production and export figures in the world, especially in vegetables such as tomatoes, watermelon, pepper, cucumber, eggplant, onion and melon. It is among the leading countries in terms of tomato and watermelon production from these vegetables. Turkey, with its wide production areas and suitable ecological structure, is one of the certain exporting countries with its self-sufficiency in vegetable production and its power to produce more of these vegetables. However, in order to increase the basic food needs of the increasing country and the world, it is recommended to make the basic inputs cheaper to the producer due to the economic problems experienced throughout the world, with the studies to increase the productivity from the unit area.
