Interviews with the Mukhtars of Finike District Inantalya Province: Urban Services, Infrastructure Problems, Effects of Joining to Metropolitan

Abstract

In the planning of cities, it is important to determine the location-specific needs and qualities correctly. At this point, the scale in which urban problems can be determined most accurately is the neighborhood scale. Mukhtars play a key role here. Identification of service, infrastructure problems and necessary demands specific to the place and residents of a local nature will not be sufficient without the opinions and participation of the muhtars who are at the focal point of these transactions. It is essential that the right analysis is associated with the right analyst. In this study, the existence and adequacy of urban services/services at the neighborhood level, the existence and quality of infrastructure problems are questioned through mukhtars in Finike District of Antalya province. In addition to this, it is examined how the closure of some town municipalities in Finike District and their transformation into mukhtars (transformation from town to neighborhood) and the gaining of neighborhood status even with low populations, affect the mukhtars and their neighborhoods in urban service, infrastructure and problem solving after the articulation to the metropolitan city. The data collection process was carried out by using a semi-structured interview form originally prepared with 15 neighborhood mukhtars as a sample. Content analysis method was used in the analysis of the data. It is expected that the findings of the study will guide the urban planning studies to be carried out at the local government level.
