Bay laurel (Laurus nobilis L.) belongs to the family Lauraceae, which comprises numerous aromatic and medicinal plants. In Turkey, Laurus nobilis L. grows in the Marmara, Aegean and Mediterranean regions. In this study, essential oil content of trees in Urla – İzmir which is west part of Turkey was determined. This study was conducted in order to determine crude cellulose of leaves laurel populations’. Two years old leaf was taken in June, July, August and September from 124 different genotypes where grown in Dilek peninsula, Urla and Karaburun (İzmir) during two consecutive years. The data obtained were compared with the "Standardization of Bay Leaf" numbered TS 1017. When all the data are evaluated, it has been determined that the Dilek Peninsula and Urla are the closest areas to the amounts specified in the Turkish Standards.
