Abstract


PREVENTING RABIES DISEASE IN THE CITIES OF THE FUTURE

The scientific data of 2016 years report that about 15 million people are vaccinated worldwide but that more than 60.000 people die. In the context of this review, by giving information about animal species having a role in the transmission of rabies disease maintaining its importance for animal and human health in our country and in the world, contamination ways, diagnosis and preventive measures, it was dealt with Asian and African countries that rabies cases in the world widely occur. Brief information was presented for current situation of rabies disease in the world, in the context of the data of World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) by aligning countries free of rabies. In addition, data in respect of rabies disease were compiled in the countries neighboring to our borders. Data in the recent five years in Turkey related to rabies cases and cases with rabies-related contact risk in both animals and humans were presented in tables. Knowledge was given related to the control of rabies for preventing rabies cases in humans in the result of exposure in domestic, livestock, stray and wild animals in our country. Information on current situation, problems and actions to be taken was presented by giving information about actions of Ministry of Inferior, Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock on the subject of prevention of rabies for problems in the rabies disease to arise in our country.
