Abstract

ANALYSIS OF SOIL-STRUCTURE INTERACTION BY FINITE ELEMENTS METHOD

The use of local soil parameters obtained from the field survey provides a good estimation of structural behaviour under the effects of actual loads during the numerical analysis of structure-soil interactions. The group of structures were systematically investigated under the effects of static and dynamic loads considering with/without ground improvements by using finite element method (FEM). According to the soil properties, application of Rammed Aggregate Piers (RAP) and Jet Grouting (JG) column ground improvement methods were proposed for the case study area. The numerical analysis concludes that the vertical deformations could be decreased by 30% to 60% by the application of RAP and JG columns, respectively. Dynamic analyses showed that for the cases of RAP and JG column applications; lateral top displacements were decreased by 70-75% and 60-65%, respectively. Finite elements analysis showed that the ground improvement methods have positive effects in decreasing the deformations through structure-soil interaction and improve the structural behaviour in terms of lateral displacements.
